Social Club was sold at auction in April 2014 following
its closure on 4 February 2014. The purchaser, Compass
Development Limited’s proposal for the development
of the site for affordable housing for sale and
includes the construction of eight 3 storey town
houses and a single maisonette. The plans
are attached for residents consideration.
The rapid development of the site represents a vote
of confidence in the village and has avoided the
building becoming more dilapidated and the creation
of an eyesore. The properties will provide essential
homes in the village and will enhance the appearance
of the area.
Compass Development Limited’s is also considering
the communities request to incorporate John Baxter
Langley, Editor of the Newcastle Chronicle’s
name into the development to commemorate his support
and work on behalf of the miners at Burradon Colliery
before and after the disaster of 1860.
