Burradon and Camperdown
In Memory of Herbie
We were all accustomed to meeting Herbie at some venue in the village whether it was at Burradon Club, Kirkdale Court or on the Front Street and despite being 83 years of age he was always fit and active. As a consequence, Herbie’s passing in December was a huge shock and loss for his family and many friends in the village.

Herbie had devoted a large part of his life to the community, coaching the great Burradon FC team of the 1970’s, serving on the committee of Burradon Club and later as President and helping Kathy Hayes at Burradon Luncheon Club.

In response to Herbie’s passing, it was only appropriate that the local community should commemorate his memory and service to the village and its people. In the circumstances, it was agreed to purchase a bench with an inscribed plaque dedicated to his memory. The unveiling ceremony was held on Saturday 11 March at Kirkdale Court and Dean Robert Wareing, St John’s Church conducted the blessing of the seat and Herbie’s friend Val Wilkinson cut the ribbon to officially unveil the seat.

The number of people at the unveiling was a testimony to his popularity which transcended the generations in the village and the many anecdotes and words of kindness reminded everyone that he was held in high esteem and people had a genuine deep affection for him.
